Climate : Loss & Damage Fund outcome adopted by TC despite US veto attempt (PRIV)

The two-day 5th meeting of the UNFCCC's Transitional Committee (TC5) eventually succeeded in adopting its year's work on the operationalisation of the new funding arrangements and t he Fund to address loss and damage, at the late hours of 4 November in Abu Dha bi, UAE, despite attempts by the United States (US) to veto consensus of the TC members.

The 46 Least Developed Countries (LDCs) ar e apparently mired in a systemic crisis with their combined gross domestic pr oduct being ten percent lower in 2023 as compared to pre-pandemic levels, requiri ng a huge mobilization of international assistance and resources for implementin g the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Conference on Trad e and Development (UNCTAD) has said.

UN : Over 60% of employment lost in Gaza due to current conflict - ILO (PRIV)

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has estimated that a minimum of 61 per cent of employment, equivalent to 182,00 0 jobs, has been lost in Gaza since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
