A fisheries subsidies agreement appears doubtful at WTO's MC13 (PRIV)

The chair of the Doha fisheries subsidies negotiations, Ambassador Einar Gunnarsson of Iceland, on 6 November apparently suggested that more work needs to be done on several issues, inc luding on the so-called two-tier "sustainability" test in identifying the big subs idizers that allegedly continue to contribute to overcapacity and overfishing, which has caused the global depletion of fish stocks, said people familiar with the developm ent.

The Final Intergovernmental Consultations on Nature-based Solutions (NbS), hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), took place in Nairobi on 9-13 October 2023. They, however, did little to allay the concerns and skepticism around the controversial concept.
