WTO : MC13 to facilitate discussions but not negotiations (PRIV)

Efforts are apparently underway to turn th e World Trade Organization's 13th ministerial conference (MC13), taking place in Abu Dhabi in February next year, into one of "productive interactions" amon g trade ministers for arriving at decisions under the overall rubric of a "re form ministerial", said people familiar with the development.

The proposal for the negotiating tex t of the WHO pandemic agreement A/INB/7/3 (proposed text) released in preparatio n for the 7th meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) reveals significant shortcomings in the access and benefit-sharing provisions, pote ntially resulting in a fragmented and ineffective system.

The proposed modalities for the 7th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) on the pandemic instrument compromises on a fair negotiation process as it frustrates Member States' r ight to propose textual amendments to the Bureau's draft negotiating text.

WHO : CSOs demand a fair negotiating process for a pandemic instrument (PRIV)

In a letter addressed to the Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) on the pandemic instrument, nearly 70 civil society organisations (CSO) demanded a fair negotiating process to en sure a balanced negotiating text to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness a nd response.
