China pushes for electronic payments in JSI negotiations at WTO (PRIV)

Amidst the tectonic shifts in global elec tronic commerce and the growing disruption of supply chains, China has issued a proposal on how electronic payments must be conducted in the ongoing negotiations at the World Trade Organization under the controversial Joint Statement Initiative (JSI) on digital trade, said people familiar with the proposal.

In the margins of the UN General Assembly at the UN headquarters in New York on 22 September, a "Consultativ e Ministerial Meeting on funding arrangements for responding to loss and dama ge" was convened by the UNFCCC's COP 27 President, H. E Sameh Shoukry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies of the United Arab Emirates, H. E Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, th e COP 28 President-designate.
