Developing countries criticize EU's deforestation regulation at WTO (PRIV)

More than a dozen countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, have severely criticized the European Un ion's "deforestation and forest degradation and repealing regulation" at the Worl d Trade Organization, accusing the EU for allegedly adopting "inherently punitive" protectionist measures against developing countries in agriculture, said pe ople, who asked not to be quoted.

The credibility of the decisions arrived at the World Trade Organization's 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) in June appea rs to be very low, with members seemingly set to miss the deadline on extendin g the 17 June Ministerial Decision on the TRIPS Agreement to diagnostics and therapeutics due to "stonewalling" tactics adopted by major developed count ries on behalf of Big Pharma, said people familiar with the development.
