Trade : Attempts to hold MC12 in early March despite worsening pandemic (PRIV)

Despite the growing uncertainties as well as the health risks stemming from the new Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, attempts are underway to re-convene the WTO's postponed 12th ministerial conference (MC12) in early March, a move that appears to accord primacy to the WTO's trade liberalization and market access agenda than to agreeing to the temporary TRIPS waiver on a "war footing", said people familiar with the development.

Trade : Russia blocks EU panel request over import substitution program (PRIV)

A request for the establishment of a dispute panel by the European Union over certain measures imposed by the Russian Federation allegedly favouring domestic products and services provided by Russian entities over imported products and services provided by foreign entities was blocked by Russia at a meeting of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) on 29 November.

WHO : Negotiating body to decide on nature of new instrument on pandemics (PRIV)

The intergovernmental negotiating body (INB) is to determine the nature of the new instrument on pandemic preparedness and response, i.e. whether this is to be a treaty or regulation or recommendation under the WHO Constitution.

Despite significant legal advances in the Latin American countries to address gender-based violence, it continues to be a serious challenge, especially in a context of social crisis aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic, which hits women especially hard.
