India has called for an expeditious outcome in the text-based negotiations on the revised TRIPS waiver proposal by end-July for saving lives from the worsening COVID-19 pandemic, as it continues to wreak havoc on both the health and economic fronts across all countries, said people familiar with the development.

The World Trade Organization director-general Ms Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on 25 June suggested that the proposed ministerial meeting on fisheries subsidies on 15 July could enable ministers to act as "a bit of good cop," and "a bit of bad cop" over their trade envoys for advancing the negotiations and provide a way forward, said people familiar with the development.

Trade : LDCs obtain 13 year TRIPS exemption, but nothing on post-graduation (PRIV)

The least-developed countries are expected to secure an extension of the TRIPS transition period for 13 years, exempting them from implementing most of the World Trade Organization's TRIPS Agreement, until 1 July 2034.
