The human rights situation in Haiti has reached "a boiling point", with violence and human rights violations and abuses having escalated and intensified since March, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Volker Turk, warned on 2 October.

Sudan : UN rights chief urges swift action to protect civilians in El Fasher (PRIV)

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk on 2 October called for urgent action to prevent large-scale, ethnically-driven attacks and atrocities in El Fasher, as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intensify efforts to take control of the long-besieged capital of Sudan's North Darfur State.

New Zealand : UN torture watchdog urges action as prison population surges (PRIV)

New Zealand must take action to reduce its rising prison population and better take advantage of its independent monitoring mechanism by adequately funding it and implementing its recommendations, experts from the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT) said after their second visit to the country.
