China and the United States on 23 July clashed over Beijing's proposal to resuscitate the multilateral trading system from the continued unilateral tariff assault by Washington against its trading partners that has allegedly made the World Trade Organization "ineffectual", said people familiar with the development.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) on 23 July warned that critical funding shortfalls are forcing it to suspend all emergency food and nutrition aid for 1.3 million people in northeast Nigeria at the end of July.
