Chair wants members to address strengthening CTG, amid headwinds (PRIV)

In a restricted document issued on 25 June, the chair of the World Trade Organization's Council for Trade in Goods (CTG) reported that "several members lamented that the CTG had lost some of its identity", while an unnamed member has sought a discussion on whether the CTG "was still complying with its mandate and role".

Breakthrough on just transition text in Bonn; all eyes on Brazil next (PRIV)

The climate talks in Bonn, Germany, that ended on 26 June, saw a breakthrough in the negotiations on the Just Transition Work Programme (JTWP), with the transmission of an informal note for further consideration, setting the stage for a formidable task ahead on agreeing to a decision at COP 30, to be held in November this year in Belem, Brazil.

"If you think 2024 was very hostile and difficult for developing countries in the climate negotiations, this year appears even more hostile and difficult for developing countries. It appears as if multilateralism is (a patient) in the intensive care unit in the UNFCCC and is on drips!" remarked Meena Raman, the Head of Programmes at Third World Network (TWN), in setting the scene for the climate talks at a side event organised by TWN together with the Plurinational State of Bolivia, on the opening day of the Bonn sessions on 16 June.
