WTO : Attempts to turn MC14 into "reform" meet, bypassing mandated issues (PRIV)

The United States on 7 May appears to have severely questioned the World Trade Organization's Director-General, Ms Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, over several initiatives launched by the WTO Secretariat, with the DG responding that it may not be good to "micro-manage" what the Secretariat does, said people familiar with the discussions.

The much-touted two-day retreat on "Sustainable Agriculture in the Multilateral Trading System" that concluded on 6 May at the World Trade Organization seemingly failed to bring about any cohesive plan or consensus among members on how to address the issue of "sustainable agriculture" in the WTO, said people familiar with the discussions.
