Trade : BRICS rejects CBAMs, UNCTAD embraces carbon pricing policies (PRIV)

The leaders of the expanded BRICS group o f countries meeting in Kazan, Russia, on 23 October rejected "unilateral, pun itive and discriminatory protectionist measures, that are not in line with intern ational law, under the pretext of environmental concerns, such as unilateral and discriminatory carbon-border adjustment mechanisms (CBAMs)."

Women have the right to equal and inclusive representation in all decision- making systems on equal terms with men, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) told States parties on 24 October.

Rights : Proportion of women killed in war doubles in 2023, says UN (PRIV)

The proportion of women killed in armed conflicts in 2023 doubled compared to 2022, with four out of every ten peop le dying as a result of conflict in 2023 being women, according to UN Women, t he United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
