WTO : GC drops draft decision on disciplines on OCOF subsidies (PRIV)

The proposed draft decision on disciplines on fisheries subsidies that contribute to overcapacity and overfishing (OCOF) has been dropped from the agenda of a crucial meeting of the World Trade Organization's General Council (GC), to be held on 22-23 July, following a meeting on 19 July of the GC chair, the WTO Director-General, and the chair of the Doha fisheries subsidies negotiations, said people familiar with the development.

Brazil is seeking approval of its draft G eneral Council (GC) decision on "Moving Agriculture Negotiations Forward" at the World Trade Organization's GC meeting on 22-23 July, but several developing country members seem to reckon that the draft decision fundamentally change s the hierarchy of the mandated negotiating bodies by seeking GC/Trade Negotiations Committee (TNC) oversight and direction, said people familiar with the discussions.

The chair of the World Trade Organization 's Trade Policy Review Body (TPRB) on 19 July delivered a mixed report of prai se and compliments by several developing countries on China's trade policies, said people familiar with the report.
