WTO : Alleged attempts to circumvent rules to advance DG's second term (PRIV)

Attempts to allegedly circumvent the rules in selecting the incumbent World Trade Organization's Director-General, Ms Ngo zi Okonjo-Iweala, for a second term came into the open after the African Group appears to have pitched for a decision to expedite the process at the upcom ing WTO General Council (GC) meeting later this month, said people familiar wit h the development.

Many developing countries, including India , Indonesia, as well as several developing country coalitions, on 5 July rall ied behind the African Group's draft text on agriculture at the World Trade Organization, in an apparent setback to Brazil's informal process over its own proposal, said people familiar with the development.

WTO : Mixed trends in trade-facilitating & trade-restricting measures (PRIV)

A World Trade Organization trade monitorin g report on 8 July claimed that its members continue to deploy more trade-facilitating measures than trade-restricting measures on goods during the period between mid-October 2023 and mid-May 2024.
