The global food import bill (FIB) is projec ted to rise by 2.5 percent to exceed USD 2 trillion in 2024, a new record high, ac cording to a preliminary estimate by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) .

There is a need for governments to scrap "c ruel and counterproductive" laws that are leading to people living in homelessne ss and poverty being arrested, fined or be subjected to degrading punishment for c arrying out activities in public that are vital for their survival.
