Trade : Need to reinvigorate services talks at WTO, says outgoing CTS chair (PRIV)

The outgoing chair of the World Trade Organization's Council for Trade in Services (CTS) on 17 June presented man y recommendations for "reinvigorating" the work on trade in services, which appears to have become a casualty due to the pursuit of the controversial plurilateral Joint Statement Initiatives (JSIs) instead of multilateral pro cesses, said people familiar with the development.

The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) industrialized countries have underscored the need for reforming the three functions of the World Trade Organization, namely, negotiating, implementat ion, and enforcement, as well as differentiation among developing countries for availing of special and differential treatment (S&DT).
