GENEVA, MAY 3 (TWN) – A business conference for promotion of trade between the countries of Eastern Europe (in various stages of marketisation) and the countries of the Third World is being held in Belgrade from May 31 and June 1.

The Conference, jointly organised by the Association of State Trading Organisations (ASTRO), UN Conference on Trade and Development, and the International Trade Centre, is being held in the premises of the Yugoslav Bank of International Economic Cooperation (JUBMES), Belgrade.

According to ASTRO, the conference aims to familiarise the Third World countries and their trading organisations with the recent changes being introduced in the foreign trade and payments systems and foreign investment regulations in the East European countries.

Representatives of the Chambers of Commerce of these countries and officials responsible for external economic cooperation are expected to attend the meeting and present the different policies of countries and how they are being operationalised.

The participants from East Europe will also be informed of the trading environment in the Third World and their viewpoints about trade opportunities and other forms of economic cooperation.
