GATT: URUGUAY ROUND TALKS COULD SOON RESUME.

BRUSSELS, JANUARY 15 (IPS/DEBRA PERCIVAL) – The Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) negotiations could soon resume and be wrapped up during February, European Community diplomats said Tuesday.

The comment came after a short meeting of representatives of GATT's Trade Negotiating Committee in Geneva Tuesday afternoon. The body brings together the 107 GATT nations and steers negotiations in GATT’s 15 areas.

"Delegates are on standby and could resume negotiations at very short notice", said an EC spokesperson.
