CANADA'S CARIBBEAN WAIVER REQUEST FOR GATT VOTE.

GENEVA, NOVEMBER 26 (IFDA)— The request of Canada for a waiver from its GATT obligations under the most-favoured-nation article one, to enable Canada to extend preferential benefits to some of the commonwealth countries of the Caribbean is to be submitted to a vote of the GATT Contracting Parties.

In adopting the report of a working party of GATT that went into this request, the Contracting Parties agreed to the Canadian request being submitted to a vote.

The waiver needs concurrence of two-thirds of the 92 GATT Contracting Parties.
