GATT CPS OKAY MEXICO’S ACCESSION PROTOCOL.

GENEVA, JULY 17 (IFDA) - Whit 61 affirmative ballots cast by Thursday evening, the Contracting Parties to GATT have approved the protocol of accession of Mexico to GATT, a spokesman announced Thursday evening.

The protocol, which was agreed to by the GATT Council earlier this week, needed the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the 91 GATT Contracting Parties, and this was secured with the 61st ballot cast.

The Trade Minister of Mexico is expected to come to Geneva before the end of the month to sign the protocol.

Thirty days thereafter Mexico will become formally a member of the GATT.
