GATT CPS OKAY MEXICO’S ACCESSION PROTOCOL.

GENEVA, JULY 17 (IFDA) - Whit 61 affirmative ballots cast by Thursday evening, the Contracting Parties to GATT have approved the protocol of accession of Mexico to GATT, a spokesman announced Thursday evening.

The protocol, which was agreed to by the GATT Council earlier this week, needed the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the 91 GATT Contracting Parties, and this was secured with the 61^st ballot cast.

The Trade Minister of Mexico is expected to come to Geneva before the end of the month to sign the protocol.

Thirty days thereafter Mexico will become formally a member of the GATT.
