WTO : Demand grows for convening virtual ministerial meet on TRIPS waiver (PRIV)

The prospects for an outcome on the much-delayed TRIPS waiver by the end of the year in the WTO's response to the COVID-19 pandemic seem rather bleak, with alleged attempts by the European Union and other industrialized countries to link the TRIPS waiver to an outcome on fisheries subsidies, said people familiar with the development.

UN : HRC establishes probe into violations & abuses committed in Ethiopia (PRIV)

The United Nations Human Rights Council on 17 December decided to establish an international commission of human rights experts to conduct a "thorough and impartial" investigation into allegations of violations and abuses committed by all parties to the conflict in Ethiopia since 3 November 2020.

COVID-19 : 2021 revealed the fragility of food systems (PRIV)

The end of this year has revealed the fragility of food systems when faced with sudden disruptions such as those observed during the COVID-19 pandemic. These disruptions have increased the number of people with limited or no access to food in the world. Today, more than 811 million people suffer from hunger, according to recent studies.
