Trade : New US industrial policy bill risks creating uneven playing field (PRIV)

The United States Senate on 8 June approved a comprehensive industrial policy bill worth $250 billion for boosting government spending on technology and research and development amidst Washington's continued escalation of its trade and tech war with China and other countries, exposing its allegedly hypocritical positions against state-led industrial policies and enterprises.

Climate : Developed countries need to be at "real zero" now, say South countries (PRIV)

A group of developing countries at the on-going climate talks being held virtually under the Subsidiary Bodies of the UNFCCC said that net zero targets by developed countries several decades into the future shifts away the focus from unprecedented emissions reductions needed at present and called for real zero emissions now.

Finance : G7 "landmark agreement" on taxation does not benefit South countries (PRIV)

The so-called 5 June "landmark agreement" of the Group of 7 countries on a global minimum corporate tax rate of 15% seeks to reduce the ability of corporations in the G7 countries to shift their profits to low- or no-income tax jurisdictions, but will not help developing countries to tax non-resident foreign corporations, especially those engaged in e-commerce.

Africa : Death toll of Burkina Faso attack reaches 160. (PRIV)

On the night of Friday, 4 June, a group of unidentified armed men stormed the village of Solhan in the north of Burkina Faso, shooting indiscriminately, looting the market and burning homes.
