Despite the worsening COVID-19 pandemic that has already claimed more than 3 million lives, a handful of industrialized countries led by the European Union, Switzerland and United Kingdom have held hostage on "ideological" grounds the proposal to suspend certain provisions of the WTO's TRIPS Agreement to combat the pandemic, said people familiar with the development.
