Trade : Panels set on X-ray scanners, broiler products (PRIV)

The WTO Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) on 20 January agreed to establish two panels relating to China, one to examine Chinese anti-dumping duties on X-ray security inspection equipment from the European Union, and the other on Chinese anti-dumping and countervailing duty measures on chicken broiler products from the United States.

Trade : Panel set to examine Canadian measures on feed-in tariffs (PRIV)

The WTO Dispute Settlement Body (DSB), at its meeting on 20 January, agreed to establish a panel, at the request of the European Union, to examine measures imposed by Canada relating to its feed-in tariff programme.

United Nations : Predicts one billionth tourist arrival this year (PRIV)

The United Nations, which commemorated the birth of the world's seven billionth baby last October, is predicting the arrival of the one billionth tourist later this year - perhaps in Europe, the United States, South America or Asia.

Greece : Austerity plan breaches last line of defence of Greek workers (PRIV)

As the Eurozone falls deeper into its sovereign debt crisis, the labour movement in Greece is being cudgelled to its knees by an austerity programme that has so far failed to bring any positive change for the crumbling Mediterranean country.

In most mainstream media the words "corruption" and "election fraud" accompany images of makeshift polling stations manned by armed guards in Burma or burning tires beside tattered ballot boxes in South Sudan - the insidiousness of stolen elections and a crumbling democracy is very seldom associated with the United States.

Honduras : Pressed by the US, Lobo amends extradition laws (PRIV)

Following a surprise meeting between President Porfirio Lobo and US government officials, Honduran lawmakers voted to amend the constitution to allow extradition of its nationals.

Germany : While some waste, others feast (PRIV)
